as phases increases the power handling capability
increases.so,compared to 1-ph&2-ph ,3-ph has more power
handling capacity.
but more than 3-ph has following problems even high
power handling capability
1:as no.of phases increases wounding of winding in
generator ,transformer becomes complex.
2:providing of heat sinks coplex
3:in transmission more length cross arms & heavy
supporters are required.
etc...........
by considering all above things we prefered 3-ph
system.

Answer / hemanth
yes ,if more number of phases increases the power will be loss in the transmission line, because more number of phases creates more power.Due to this the power is transmitted from long distance so transmission line consists of RLGC ,due to this component in line power gets lossed .Not more but less.

Alternator will have star connected winding. In that star point(neutral wire) will be earthed. So power through 3phase only.......
Why not 6 pahse is it leads to I2R losses....
