what will happen if capacitor bank is used in generation side?
Answers were Sorted based on User's Feedback
if we connect capacitor bank in generation side inverse voltage will be increase . it means in ac transmission line losses should be there so transmitted voltage will be getting drop due line impedance and insulator earth capacitance , that case connecting the capacitor bank in generation .

Answer / antaratara ghosh
the reasons are:
1. Capacitors will absorb harmonics as their impedance
decreases and frequency increases, resulting in overheating
and increased stress that leads towards premature failure
2. Capacitors will resonate with the system impedance,
causing high voltage spikes and current upto 10 times the
normal level.
3. Switching of capacitor banks creates voltage transients
resulting overvoltage to loads and can damage solid state
equipments like variable frequency drives.

A 100 kVA , 400 v/250 kv testing transformer has 8% leakage reactance and resistance on 100 KVA base . A cable has to be tested at 500 kv using the above transformer as a resonant transformer at 50 hz . if the charging current of the cable at 500 kv is 0.4 A find the series inductance required . Assume 2% resistance for the inductor to be used and the connecting leads . Neglect dielectric loss of hte cable . what will be the input voltage to the transformer ?
