why single induction motor is not self starter?..

Answer / paras315

in single phase induction motor stator has single phase
winding, when we give single phase supply, it creats a
pulsating magnetic flux in the air gap but for rotor
rotation there should be a rotating flux.so it is not self
starting.
for starting either auxiliary winding or any means which
splits the single phase flux in at least 2 phase flux can be
used

why single induction motor is not self starter?..

Answer / wareagle

You could have gone to Google and found this for yourself.

"Single phase induction motor can't produce continuously
rotating magnetic field in the air gap, as either N or S
pole would be present at a time. Single pole is not
sufficient to drive the rotor from one end. So a capacitor
is employed to shift the phase."

why single induction motor is not self starter?..

Answer / kaushal

Single phase supply to motor can't produce continuously
rotating magnetic field as either N or S
pole would be present at a time. so there will not be force
of repulsion as well as attraction This is not sufficient
to drive the rotor from one end. So a capacitor
is employed to shift the phase & to create rotating magnetic
field.
