Earthing is used for personnel safety and to ground leakage current , the metal body of equipment connected to ground it called earthing and neutral point in 3-ph ckt which connected to ground is called grounding in this grounding unbalance current flow (normally Zero).

Grounding is used for referencing the voltage. A common point is taken.
Earthing is used for safety purpose, a conductor is connected to ground or any other safe medium, giving a low resistance path for current to pass as to avoid any effect of surges.
