How to calculate the sonic velocity of a gas stream?
Answer / priyankar talukdar
V sonic,G = SQRT(κ*R*T/MWG)
is the sonic velocity if only gas is present (presence of liquid ignored)[m/s]
where:
R is the gas constant (8314 J/kmol/K)
T is the absolute temperature
κ is the ratio of the specific heats (Cp/Cv)=1.4 for most of diatomic gases
MWG is the mean molecular weight of the gas phase

QUANTUM CHEMISTRY AND CHEMICAL ENGINEERING - EXAMPLE 31.3 : In photoelectrical effect analysis of quantum chemistry, let E = kinetic energy of electron, p = intensity of UV light, f = frequency of UV light. According to Classical Theory, E = c for all values of f, E = mp. According to Quantum Theory, E = c for all values of p, E = mf + c. In a graph, m and c are constants where m is slope and c is y intercept. If m = 2 and c = 3 with similar value of E : (a) find the value of p according to Classical Theory; (b) find the value of f according to Quantum Theory.

Question 89 - A hemocytometer is a device that is used for counting cells. In an engineering experiment, 100 microlitres of cell suspension is diluted with 50 microlitres of Trypan blue dye. Only death cells appear blue in color when stained with the dye. There are 57 cells detected in a hemocytometer, where 5.3 % of them appear blue when the chamber of the meter is placed under a microscope. Each square of a chamber can contain 0.0001 mL of liquid. (a) Calculate the number of viable cells. (b) The cells ocupied 5 squares. Calculate the average number of viable cells / square. (c) Calculate the dilution factor of the cell suspension by using the formula : Dilution = final volume / initial volume. (d) Calculate the concentration of viable cells / mL by using the formula : Concentration = (Average number of viable cells / square) x dilution x (square / volume).
