Function of scoop in BFP

Function of scoop in BFP..

Answer / habib

Your question is not clear. Did you mean the scoop tube? If
yes, scoop tube is not the part of BFP. It is the part of
Hydraulic coupling. And not necesarilly all the BFP is
having hydraulic couplings. According to the position of
scoop tube oil quantity(flow rate) of the coupling is
maintained. The higher the oil flow, the higher the output
speed of the coupling and vice versa and same to the BFP.

According to the steam flow rate in the turbine feed water
flow rate should be matched. To get the variable flow rate,
variable speed is required for the BFP. And so far the
hydraulic coupling is the most efffective solution to serve
this purpose.

In volute casing the discharge area is more. so as per bernoulli's principle the pressure must be reduces also from the basics, pressure = Force/Area. so pressure and area are inversily proportional. By considering these two basic rules pressure must be reduces. But in any centrifugal pump, the pressure is increasing. How the velocity is converted into pressure. In my view only head is increases but how the pressure increases?
