It is always better to give DC supply to the field then
only we can get continuous output i.e sine wave from the
stator of an alternator.

the dynamical induced emf needs a constant flux i.e time
invarient flux
if we give the ac input it produces alternating flux in the
rotar field and dc current not producec e.m.f. is induced
so the
electrical power will be zero
