How to calculate HV Cable Sizing & what are the factors to be considered for selection?...

Answer / ashish tiwari

The HV cbale size shall be base on the fault level on HV
side. Like 18.4KA fault current for 11 KV supply & 21.34 KA
fault current for 33 KV supply. We can calculate the HV
cable
BY USING FORMULA ISH = K x A/( sq. root of T)

Where,
ISH :SHORT CIRCUIT CURRENT IN KA (r.m.s.)

T :DURATION OF SHORT CIRCUIT CURRENT IN SECONDS

A :AREA OF ALUMINIUM CONDUCTOR IN MM2

K :IS A CONSTANT = 0.094 for aluminium

ISH x Sq.rootT 18.4 x Sq. root 1
A = ------------ = ------------
K 0.094
= 195.7 sq.mm

HENCE 3 C x 240 SQ.MM XLPE (AL) CABLE IS REQUIRED FOR
INCOMING SIDE AS WELL AS OUTGOING SIDE OF 11 KV SUPPLY.
