assume the nos as a and b
a+b=108 as given
ab=168*12 (product of 2 nos=product of lcm and hcf)
(a-b)^2=(a+b)^2 - 4ab
so we have

(a-b)^2= 108*108 - (4*168*12)
=3600

thus a-b=60
