The HCF of two nos. is 12 and their LCM is 168. If the sum
of these two nos is 108, then their difference is:
1) 36, 2) 48, 3) 60, 4) 72.
Answer Posted / aaditya
3) 60 is the correct answer
assume the nos as a and b
a+b=108 as given
ab=168*12 (product of 2 nos=product of lcm and hcf)
(a-b)^2=(a+b)^2 - 4ab
so we have
(a-b)^2= 108*108 - (4*168*12)
=3600
thus a-b=60
