What will be the direction of rotation of a Alternator in case
it goes in motoring action when connected with grid ?

Answer / sukriti kiran
the direction of rotation wont change because the phase
sequence of the supply remains same as before(generator is
connected to infinite bus bar) , for magnetic locking field
poles develop torque in the same direction as before

IT WILL NOT ROTATE,BECAUSE FOR LARGE MACHINE ARMATURE
WINDING IS PLACED on STATOR AND FIELD WINDING ON ROTOR,the
field winding is exited by dc.THE OUT PUT IS DRAWN FROM
STATOR,IN CASE ARMATURE WINDING WHEN CONECTED WITH GRID THEN
DUE TO INVERSE OF FARADAY LAW ELECTROMAGNETIC INDUCTION THE
ARMATURE WINDING WHICH IS PLACED ON STATOR EXPRIENCES TORQUE
under the influence of flux priduced by field winding, but
this is not possible to rotate the stator.for motoring
action is possible in small ac machine in which armature
winding is placed on rotor and field winding on stator

alternators direction of rotatin is generally acw as it
rotates due to action of prime mover (steam, water)but when
accidently when it is connected with grid supply it stars
getting heavy curent to its wndg and starts motoring action
by rotating in cw(opposite) direction and its wndg gets
burned as it is designed for generation not for motoring action
