Star delta starter ,
motor is starting current is 3 times of rated current.because
it is used to reduce the starting current.

if motor connected in star then high torque and power
if motor connected in delta then low starting current(cable
size also less)

There is no advantage.If the motor is designed to operate at
star connection than you must operate as such. like wise
if it is designed to operate on delta connection then
you must connect in delta.If the motor is operated with
the other connection than it may cause failure of the
motor.
