There is no difference in constructional dimensions and the
acceptable diameters in both the case. the difference is
only for fixing to the equipment. If the equipment is
having Npt thread then we have to use NPT glands and if the
equipment having blank holes then have to use M20X1.5
glands with check Nuts. whereas npt glands are conical
thread and are fixed directly on equipment No check nut is

1/2" NPT and M20x1.5 Both are different thread standard,
NPT (Nominal Pitch Thread) is British standard and the
other one is Metric standard. But here for cable gland
1/2"NPT the fixing thread will be in conical shape and
M20x1.5 (20 mm Dia. with 1.5 mm pitch) flat shape.

adding into Ramesh Point....
1. Check / Lock Nut option available for both Metric & NPT
thread system so we can use both NPT & Metric System Glands
with Lock Nuts when we have blank holes on device (control
station/light/Junction Boxes, etc etc.)
2. But; Metric based cable galnds are Manufacture with
lock nuts and being used videly.

It depends on the design standard mainly which have to used.
For ONGC/ Various British Projects used only NPT Cable Glands...
In case of Norwegian/ European where matric standard are
used, ISO Cable Glands are prefered.
