difference between antifriction bearing & Journal bearing ?..

anti friction bearing is used to remove the the friction
between the shaft & casing.
in journal bearing force is perpendicular to the shaft

Journal bearings have sliding contact and use for heavey load and highi speed used mostly heavey duty purposes
And anti-friction bearings have point contact mostly used medium duty purposes

i am very much confused about direction of thrust in steam turbine...we have steam turbine of 13 stages,10 stages of impulse and 3 of reaction type....in study manual direction of thrust is towards inlet but on thrust bearing its loading side is towards condenser(exhaust side) wile also dummy ring is present in design which also restrict rotor to move in exhaust side direction not inlet ....
