1) Init 0 : Gracefully bring the server to ok prompt.

2) init 1 : Single user mode with criticle file system
mounted.
3) init 2 : Multiuser without NFS

4) init 3 : Multiuser wi th NFS

5) init 4 : undefined

6) init 5: shutdown the server

7) init 6 : restart server

8)init S & s:single user mode some file systems are mounted
state
