you have to assign a role to a user.YOu can add the role to
user in su01 OR you can add the user to role in pfcg.which
method is preferable?why?

Both methods are same, there is no diffrence. When a role
is assign it create a link between user and role in table
agr_users. If role is generated properly then automatically
user will get all associated profiles.
Additional info:
- If role is not generated then assining user from pfcg
won't generate profile automatically users will still
deprived of profile as it nowhere exist.
- If you hit user compare in PFCG then it will syncronize
all changed profile with user master. The same can be done
via PFUD.
