Jim lies a lot. He tells the truth on only one day in a week. One day he said: "I lie on Mo..

Answer / guest

Jim tells the truth on Tuesday.

As Jim tells truth only on one day in a week, his statement
on day 1 and day 3 both can not be false. Otherwise he tells
truth on more than one days in a week. Also, all three
statements are mad on three consecutive days, statement made
on day 1 and day 3 both can not be true. Thus, either the
statement made on day 1 or day 3 is true and other is false.
Also, the statement made on day 2 must be false i.e. day 1
is not Saturday, Friday or Wednesday.

Let's assume that the statement 1 is true. Then from the
statement 3, day 1 must be either Friday or Wednesday. But
it is already deduced that day 1 is not Saturday, Friday or
Wednesday.

Hence, the statement made on day 1 is false and the last
statement is true. then from the statement 1, day 3 must be
either Monday or Tuesday. But it is already deduced that day
1 can not be Saturday i.e. day 3 can't be Monday. Hence, Jim
tells the truth on Tuesday.

Answer / manish kumar yadav

Stmt 1 = He lies on Monday and Tuesday.
stms 2 = on next day "Today is sunday, saturday or thusday.
stmt 3 = on next day "he lies on Friday and wednesday.

Assume he tells truth on day X and remember he lies on (X+1) th and( X+2) th day.
------------------------------
If the day X = Monday
------------------------------
stmt1 : he lies on monday, so on the same day he cannot tell that he lies or say truth.
because if he says he lies on monday if he was suppose to say truth on tuesday it will be contradicting in same manner if he was to lie on that day but he tells truth. so X cannot be Monday
-------------------
if X= Tuesday
--------------------
same as above...
----------------------------
if X = Wednesday
----------------------------

then X+1 and X+2 day he must lie.
so what he tells on x+1 day is next day can be sunday, saturday, Thursday. Here next day is Thursday so this condition is false.
---------------------------
if X = Thursday
----------------------------
X+1 day will be Friday and what he tells on X+1 th day is "Today is sunday, saturday or thusday"(HE LIES HERE)((TRUE)) so in accordance to our assumption this condition is true for us
and on X+2 th day will be Saturday (For this one Read below)

in stmt 3 he told today is friday or wednesday so as taking the same condition as monday and tuesday he cannot say truth or lie on Friday or wednesday i.e if X+2 id friday or wednesday he cannot do anything so in above X+2 our assumption fits well and he lies on Saturday too.
-----------------------------------------
if X= Friday Explained as above
----------------------------------------
if X= Saturday (if he says truth on saturday)
--------------------------------------------------
then X+1 will be Sunday but acc to stmt 2 our assumption fails because what he told is true and he cannot tell truth on two days.
----------------------------
if X= Sunday
----------------------------
then X+1 must be Monday.
and on X+2 day must be wednesday but stmt 3 fits well with what he said and he can say truth on only one day in a week either monday or sunday so this condition also fails ....
=============================Conclusion=============
so only solution is X= thursday...
HE DOESN'T LIE ON THURSDAY

Answer / imran sajjad

the above answer:
if statement of day 1 is false then 'i lie on mondays' is
false, implies that on monday he tells the truth also.

if either of statement 1 and 3 is a lie, that means he
tells the truth on two days.
