Answer / anil kamat
Investment castings are similar to sand casting except that
intricate shapes which require to be done in a single piece
mould without ireggularities are done using this method. In
this the pattern is made using wax and then the the mould
is filled with sand around the wax pattern and the the
mould is baked untill the moisture is removed and the wax
evaporates and the cavity is formed . Then the molten metal
is poured into the cavity to get the desired shaped casting.

Investment Casting is also known as precision
casting.Following process being used for Investment casting.
1.Die Preparation (Aluminium Material)
2.Wax are injected in die thro'injection moulding process
(Temp of wax 60 deg)
3.Slurry preparation , 7-8 coat of slurry are provided
around wax pattern.24 hrs req for drying of sand
4.Then the given mould is subjected to biler for removing
wax from mould.
5.Heating of mould above 1000 deg (for strenghting
apllicatiaon of mould)
6.Material is poured in given mould

What is iron ferrite, define what is it used for, and where is it found?
I currently use 17-7 PH stainless which is hardened to condition CH after forming. raw matl is .1.75"X .12" X .008". Its main usage after hardening is silicon wafer retainer where it's contantly cycled up and down to putin and remove wafer after 40-60 sec process at 400C temp. At this high temperature this part seemed to deform after a a couple of hundred wafer which is what it was designed for in the first place. THere is a proposal to go to a different material to increase lifeline of this part. My question is..... can 321 SST be a plugin replacement. I know this has a higher temp rating but how about its forming characteristics, will it have spring properties, and wont become brittle after prolonged exposure to 400C.
