usually stainless steels are alloyed with nickel and
chromium.chroimum with oxygen forms chromium oxide which
forms a thin coating on the surface of the steel.this
coating resists corrosion

stainless steel is the alloy of iron & chromium. since
chromium is an excellent corrosive resistant. because of
reaction of external surface there is an unbalanced
molecular force attraction on outer & inner surface known
as stress corrosion cracking.

stainless steel is corrosion resistent becuase it contain
corrosion resistent element called chromium. so even though
any scratches are formed on stainless steel material this
will expose to atmosphere and can cause corrosion but
becuase of chromim present it form the new layer on the
metal it acts as protective coating.

Stainless steel is an alloy of iron, chromium and nickel
and the iron also consists of very less amount of carbon
and corrosion is the property of a material regarding with
the percentage of carbon content in the iron so as
mentioned above the carbon content in stainless steel is
very low, So it is corrosion resistent.
