Two third majority is required for a single party to form a
Government both at centre and state. For instance if
Congress party is contesting the elections as a single party
instead of UPA then it will need to win 2/3rd of the total
543 lok sabha seats to form a government at the centre.
While for an alliance like NDA or UPA it need to win just
over 50% seats to form a government. This means out of the
total 543 lok sabha seats, 272 will be just enough to form a
government for an alliance.
This is what I understand.

2/3 majority is what i knew before.But 2/ 3 of 543 is around 362 seats.
And in case of no seats ,272 seats required which is approx 1/2 of 543
so i think around 50 % of total seats is required to form govt
