the difference between sychronous and asynchronous
communication is that in synch comm between two nodes,
first connection will be established and the communication
will take place.while in asynch comm there is no need to
establish a connection before data transmission. another
thing is that:synch comm is used in circut swithed
netwoks.and asynch comm is used in packet swithed networks.

Synchronous communication is direct communication where the
communicators are time synchronized. This means that all
parties involved in the communication are present at the
same time. This includes, but is not limited to, a telephone
conversation (not texting), a company board meeting, a chat
room event and instant messaging. Asynchronous communication
does not require that all parties involved in the
communication to be present at the same time. Some examples
are e-mail messages, discussion boards, blogging, and text
messaging over cell phones. In distance (specifically
online) education asynchronous communication is the major
(sometimes the only) method of communication. Usually, we
use different discussion boards in each class with each
having its own purpose.
A start bit and a stop bit are added to each data segment
for asynchronous communications. For synchronous
communication, both the start bit and stop bit ane
eliminated, so a faster transmission speed is achieved.
With INS-Net, the standard transmission speed of
asynchronous communication is 38.4 kbps, while that of
synchronous communication is 64 kbps or 128 kbps.

Synchronous Communication:
It is based on synchronization between the sender and the
receiver. Both must be synchronized before actual
communication takes place. The clock pulses are generally
used to provide synchronization.
Asynchronous Communication:
This communication doesn't need any synchronization between
the sender and the receiver. Sender may send the
information at anytime without waiting for the receiver to
be ready to receive the information. The the receiver may
receive it some other time later.

In synch transmission,the two units share a common clock
frequency and bits are transmitted continuously at the rate
dicted by the clock pulse. in long distant seriel
transmission , each unit is driven by aseparate clock of
the same requency. synchronisation signals are transmitted
periodically b/w the two units to keep there clocks in step
with each other.
A serial asynchronous data transmission technique used in
many interactive terminals employs special bits that are
inserted at both ends of the character code. with this
tchnique , each character cosists of three parts ;a start
bit , the character bit, and stop bits.

in asynchronous transmissions data packets may be
transmitted in irregular time interval and also the data
packets are transmitted hafazardly. It requires
specification of start and stop bit.
In synchronous transmission data packets may be
transmitted at irregular time interval but they are
transmitted in sequential manner.For example data packet1
must be followed by data packet2 but it is not compulsory
in asynchronous transmission.

The principle difference between the synchronous and
asynchronous modes of transmission is that in the
synchronous case, the receiver uses a clock which is
synchronised to the transmitter clock. Synchronous
transmission has the advantage that the timing information
is accurately aligned to the received data, allowing
operation at much higher data rates. It also has the
advantage that the receiver tracks any clock drift which
may arise (for instance due to temperature variation).
