ic s are having dual line package.... there a side u can see
7 pins in each side....and 4 gates are in the ic. so the ic
numbers starts from 74.......

Not every IC's start with 74, we have 7805,7905, etc. In
case of IC 74 series, we can see that the pin 4 and 7 are
supplied -Vcc and +Vcc supplied respectively. And most
importantly this convention is not the case in every IC
that first two number denotes the power supply pins.

some ics r there wich starts with 78 and 79 series.
eg: in 7805 the 78 is a symbol for +ve voltage and 05 is a indiction of voltage quantity,
in 7905 the 79 indicates the -ve coffecient and 05 represent the voltage level...
in the case of 74 series, the voltage level is applied in between these 2 pins.

ICS starts with 74 because the power supply is provided to
pin no 7 & 4 .that why it is called 74 ICS
| Is This Answer Correct ? | 5 Yes | 13 No |
Answer / deepak
Because the power supply is connected on pin 4,7 of the 74
series Ics.
