Can anyone tell me the step by step process how to connect
cognos to oracle?

Cognos connection to Oracle Datasource(JDBC Connction)
1. Go to IBM COgnos Administration
2. Go to 'Configuration' tab
3. Data Source COnnection
4. Top right cotner click on 'New data source connection'
5. Provide Name for your connection
6. Click next
7. From type select 'Oracle'
8. Select check box 'JDBC COnnction'
9. CLick Next
10. Provide connection string ***Get this detail from tnsname.ora file
11. crete signon (Provide database id & password)
12. Click next
13. In the next screen select 'Oracle Net descriptor'
14. Drive type 'thin'
15. Provide Database connction string value in the box for 'Oracle Net
Descripor'
16. Test the connection

Cognos is a reporting tool so oracle is connected before
publishing the package in FM. Their is the connectivity to
oracle and the link is given after that the package which
is linked to oracle is published to report author then
after reports are generated which has got a link with the
oracle. Its simple.....

I think when during the ETL process ETL people will do the
connections to the required RDBMS in the form of ODBC
connections in taht way they can import the tables from
data source to target table (i.e in data ware house) data
warehouse acts as a data source to the BI modelers for
creating the interface.the project contains query
subjects .which contains the SQL statements.so ETL people
do the odbc connections during ETL process.
