An ASIC is an APPLICATION SPECIFIC INTEGRATED CIRCUIT. The
design of this IC depends upon the specific application for
which is going to be used. But in case of FPGA, these are
FIELD PROGRAMABLE GATE ARRAY. These ICs have programmabe
logic circuit inside it. So it can be programmed in field
itself according to the requirement of application. No
prior knowledge of application is required.
Nowadays FPGAs are more popular than ASIC.

deciding which one is better depends on requirements.. for
large number production of IC ASIC is preferred as cost per
unit ll b lesser because of low NRE cost(non recurring
enginnering cost) but for low number production FPGA is
prefeered as time to market is better.

Based on the application we can erase and program
FPGA.Whereas,we can use ASIC only for specific applications
and also it takes more time to come to market when compare
to FPGA.so FPGA is better comparing with ASIC

ASIC is used for specific application where as FPGA is a programmable gate array by changing programming part ,a customer can manufacture more devices.fpga is better
