Hi Deepa and Ns Rao
NsRao I think Deepa is right, it doesn't matter whether u
are righting your test case (Excel or test director),
creating a tracibility matrics is part of the testing
process.
Only from the tracibiltity matrics you can identify that
your test coverage is completed or not , you can also make
the link between the Xls test case with requirement ID in
xls file too.

When there is changes in the req ..we need to first find
out the affected testcase and need to edit/block the
testcase..the very first time when we write the testcase a
traceability matrix will be prepared..Traceability matrix
is nothing but testcases mapped with the reqs..Req id needs
to be mapped with test case id..When there is change in the
req we need to look for the req id and change
corresponding test case id...

If the requirement is compleately changed definitely we
have to write new test cases
if the requirement is not compleately changed we can update
the old one that depends on the effect on functionality
