QA has major role in software lifecycle.He/she only decide
the test strategies, test data, Guidelines to run the test
cases.He/She also reviews the test logs after the
completion of the test.
QA decides, whether the product is ready to deploy or not.
So,You can say ,QA is the umpire for whole thing.

QA can be quality assurance or quality analyst who assures
all the activities in each phase of the specified SDLC been
carried out and confirms the product/module/program defects
found are fixed by conducting the configuration audit
w.r.t client's requirement before delivery.
