Differentiate Himrus and Amrus.
Answer / Anil Kumar Mishra
Himrus (Kashmir Shawl) and Amrus are both types of shawls from Kashmir, India. However, they differ in their patterns and weaving techniques:
1. Himru Shawls - Typically feature bold geometric or floral designs with a symmetrical repeating pattern, made using the double-weft technique (Jamdani). They have a distinctive thick border along the edge.
2. Amrus Shawls - Characterized by intricate floral patterns and fine weaving that creates a lightweight shawl. They are made using the single-weft technique (Tamsha) without the thick border found in Himru shawls.
