mechanical efficiency is high in petrol engines compared to diesel engines but why diesel engines ar..

Answer / harsh

Because petrol engine can give high speed but with small load carrying capacity when other side diesel engine gives lesser speed as compare to petrol engine but with very high load carrying capacity. Thats why it is use in trucks.

mechanical efficiency is high in petrol engines compared to diesel engines but why diesel engines ar..

Answer / jerry

diesel engines are preferred in heavy duty trucks because the ignition process is dependent on coalition of molecules and this is attainable with a higher compression ration where as petrol engines depends on the volatility and flash point of petrol

mechanical efficiency is high in petrol engines compared to diesel engines but why diesel engines ar..

Answer / ansari

Compression efficiency of diesel engine is more than petrol engine b/c in diesel engine air is compressed first then fuel is injected and air can be compressed without combustion where as in case of petrol engine air fuel mix is compressed together and hence higher compression is not possible. Diesel engine run on 4 stroke and petrol on 2 stroke. Diesel engine are heavier as more heat is produced and normally water cooled. Petrol engine are normally air cooled. and a lot more to discuss.

mechanical efficiency is high in petrol engines compared to diesel engines but why diesel engines ar..

Answer / ankushkalia

In case of heavy vehicles, more torque is require. More torque comes from larger stroke and large stroke means high compression ratio. Diesel engines have high compression ratio. For same temperature and pressure, diesel engines are more efficient.
