What is the difference between lubricating oil and insulating
Oil?
Answers were Sorted based on User's Feedback
lubricating oil is used in order to reduce friction from
moving parts, to make somthing run smoothly without any
problem.
But,insulating oil is used to insulate parts at different
electrical potential i.e., to protect or isolate some
meterials from the passage of electricity.
Regarding the viscosity of the insulating fluids it is
highly desirable that they have a low viscosity (as long
they keep inflamability at a reasonable level) as this
helps the removal of heat out of the transformer.
Hope this is of help.

Lubricating oil is normally used in mechanical moving parts.
But in insulating oil is a mineral oil and having non
current carring capacity depends upon a tested voltage
level. Normally insulating oil will used in transformer
cooling purpose (After tested the "BDV" Break Down Voltage).

too much different
u measure short ckt test then u find more breaking capacity in insulation oil 40 kv/mm to 50 kv/mm
and other is viscosity is more in lubrication oil
