diode is electronic device which can be used either for
rectifiers or for switch.. diode can be various types like
normal diode, zener diode..
diode has static and dynamic charactaristics. it works on A.C
if the diode acts as rectifier it converts A.C into pulsating
D.C.

Diode is also called as p-n junction bcoz there are positive
and negative sides which is separated by one junction. It is
used as rectifier due to flow of current (+) to (-) and
block current (-) to (+) directions . It is used as a switch
bcoz in Forward bias diode is closed so current flows easily
and in Reverse bias it is open, I(current) doesn't. It is
also used as a Clipping, Comparator etc. If we have changed
impurity level in it, its characteristics will be changed .
It will become Zener Diode, Tunnel Diode.....

DIODE,is the combination of pn junction. in the sence doping the impurites in the required quantities.i think there are two types of impurites ie.,silicon and germanium.
main function of a diode is working in forward bias & reverse bias. in the sence flow of current.
APPLICATIONS:
1.rectefiers
2.used as GATES(AND,OR...)
3.protection circuit for polarity preferences
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. for silicon biasing current is 0.7v.but practicaly it's 0.6
2. for germanium biasing current is 0.3v.
