First you should know no difference in Karnataka and other states in TDS and Sales Tax.
Sales Tax is a Indirect tax its levied on sales of the Goods value. Now sales tax called Value Added Tax (VAT) . The rate of tax are different in every states.
TDS:
Tds is collected for Income tax. It deduct by employer and TAN number holder when payment made.
