b4 installing patch,we must maintain the /etc/vfstab, /etc/system back ups and if our system root in mirror means
if we have mirrored os disks first we break it.
so if our system crashed after installing patch then we can easily up our system

The above answer is correct , we can also take the backup of
root in tape and unfortunately if something happens bad ,we
can restore the root if corrupted.

Note : Always take a backup of root before applying patch.
Tape backup is reliable.
