Q2. Pipe A takes 16 min to fill a tank. Pipes B and C, whose
cross-sectional circumferences are in the ratio 2:3, fill
another tank twice as big as the first. If A has a
cross-sectional circumference that is one-third of C, how
long will it take for B and C to fill the second tank?
(Assume the rate at which water flows through a unit
cross-sectional area is same for all the three pipes.)

Answer / manish thakur
Circumference units -> C = 1; B = 2/3; A = 1/3
Pipe cross sectional area units -> C = 1; B = 4/9; A = 1/9
Time = volume/ flow rate
Flow rate = constant x cross section area
Using the above, we can derive the time taken by B and C to
fill the tank, which twice the size of what A fills.
Solving, we get
Desired answer = 32/13

hello guys i have some doubt lets solve it this way
x , y ,z be the spped of water coming out of A , B ,C(in ltr /min ) repctivly , V be the first tank volume then 2V will be the secont tank volume now
16 x = V ( pipe A takes 16 min to fill tank )
now the cross sections ration gives us radius ratio whcih gives us area ratio ,
hence y/z = 9/4 also x/z = 9/1 now if the two pipes fill secont tank in t time then
(y+z)*t = 2V put ol the values in terms of x , x gets cancel and answer is 32* 36 /13 what is the mistake i have done plzz tell me

A takes 16 min for frist tank.. B and C circumfrence is 2:3... And A circum is one third of C so A is 1/3... Now
we have to fill twice the frist tank so A takes 32 min to fill.. B and C fills 5 time of A then ... So 32/5 is 6.4 min...

The crew of a rowing team of 8 members is to be chosen from 12 men (M1, M2, …., M12) and 8 women (W1, W2,…., W8), such that there are two rows, each row occupying one the two sides of the boat and that each side must have 4 members including at least one women. Further it is also known W1 and M7 must be selected for one of its sides while M2, M3 and M10 must be selected for other side. What is the number of ways in which rowing team can be arranged.
