its just the line which shows how it works i.e.,either
linearly or non linearly based on the operating point.once
it got breakdown voltage it got the character of linearity.

consider case of diode. generally diode is used with
resistance. diode is non-linear and have exponential graph.
whereas resistance is linear and has straight line..for
proper working they should have same value of current when
connected in series.(same for voltage). so load lines are
drawn to choose operating point where both intersects.
