I think, the book ?Data Warehousing Tool Kit" by R.Kimbal
is the best one to have information about data warehousing.
It has got a very generic way of stepping in to
fundamentals of Data Warehousing and the process to build a
data warehouse.

Ralph Kimball books are very good (Both Data warehouse and ETL toolkit). Recently I stumbled on a website w w w .dwbiconcepts. c o m which has quite comprehensive and practical resources (both beginners and advanced).
