ethernet is an old standard which was recently adopted by IEEE
It was a joint venture of DIX i.e. Digital,Intel and Xerox.
When it was under DIX it had a max BandWidth of 10Mbps
But when IEEE took over they introduced FastEthernet or
100-baseT(100Mbps) AND Gigabit Ethernet(1000Mbps or 1Gbps)
