How can we use consolidations in microstrategy report..

Consolidations :
Consolidations are used to Specify the data you want to view in your report,and it allows you to group attribute elements in New ways without changing the metadata and warehouse definitions.

Use:
When the client want to view profit values as per season wise for a particular region, in this situation season attribute not available in data so we can create the season consolidation as SEASON = {(SUMMER = FEB+MAR+APR+MAY)+ (SPRINT = JUNE+JULY+AUGUST+SEPTEMBER) + (WINTER = OCTOBER+NOVEMBER+DECEMBER+JAN) };

The above consolidation we can insert into report then it will displays the season wise profit values.....

Consolidations are used to grouping of attribute
elements.Performence wise these are very useful.

EX: I have month attribute in my project but customer need
season wise report for this i will create consolidation by
combing some of months as a one element.

Summer(feb+march+april+may)
Winter(Oct+Nov+Dec+jan)
Rainy(june+july+Aug+sep).

Data which is not there in datawarehouse and such data to be shown on the report as per the requirement.
for ex: Month attribute has jan,feb,mar......Dec.

But you want a consolidated elements we need to create an attribute in such a way without changing the metadata and warehouse defination.
This we achieve with consolidation.

so we group the attribute elements called derived elements.

summer=mar+apr+may

The consolidated attribute to be created to display values in a report.
Here in such case we use consolidation.

Grouping of attribute elements to create elements which are not present DW by default is consolidation.The elements thus generated are Derived elements.
