BGP - Boarder Gateway protocol
use for communicating different Ad number.

IGRP - Interior Gateway Routing Protocol
igrp is a good protocol and use for routing.

When do you use BGP, IGRP, OSPF, Static Routes?..

Answer / ashok kumar

BGP - When u have multiple ISP connection on same router it
will perform as loadbalancing and its coonect different
AS ,its slow convergence compare to OSPF and IGRP . it
using the TCP port-179 to exchange packets with neighbor.
Medium to Big Organisation

OSPF - OSPF is fast convergence link state routing
protocol, whcih connect different area with area0, where
area0 is core router. ABR and ASBR are connected to
Area0.its uses own L4 protocol to send hello packet. small
to meduim organisation

IGRP - Its a link-state cisco proprietry routing protocol.
where multi vendor product is not supported. its useful for
small to medum organisation.

Static route - Its best route path defined by network admin
for very small organisation , where n/w traffic will send
to remote n/w faster.

When do you use BGP, IGRP, OSPF, Static Routes?..

Answer / wye-lis

BGP is a path vector protcol. It is use to route traffic
between different as. (EGP)

igrp is a distance vector protocol. It is limited to cisco
proprietry. It updates every 90 sec. meaning slower
converge but better cpu useage.it should be used in a small
to medium size network since it have the ability for up to
255 hops.

ospf is a link state protocol. It is classles and suitable
for a midium to a large size network(IGP) cause it is
faster to converge and ability to divide into areas. OSPF
is an IGP standard routing protocol.

static route is as the name implys, one to one static
mapping from source to destination staticly without the use
of dynamic routing protocol.

When do you use BGP, IGRP, OSPF, Static Routes?..

Answer / arjun

BGP: Boder Gateway Protocol: When you need your network to
reach internet we need BGP. For interdomain routing we need
BGP. When we need our network to reach another network we
need BGP, BGP acts as a mediator for communicating to
different domains.

IGRP : Interior Gateway Routing Protocol: Its a Interior
Gateway Protocol (distance vector)

OSPF: Open Shortest Path First : Its a link state protocol.
OSPF is a Interior Gateway Routing Protocol. When our
organisation is Medium - big sized OSPF can be used.
OSPF works by creating Areas (Area 0 is compulsory)
Depending on requirement different areas are created like:
Stub area, NSSA area, Toatally stub and Totally NSSA.
Differnt roles are played by routers depending where they
sit in network:
Internal router
Backbone router
Area Border Router
Autonomous System Boundery Router

Differnt router mentioned above generate multiple LSA
provinding information about network:
LSA 1,2,3,4,5,7

Static Routes: When our network is quite small and we want
to define routes manually we configure static routes.
But when network grows defining routes statically can be
very difficult and complicated .

When do you use BGP, IGRP, OSPF, Static Routes?..

Answer / ankit sharma

BGP - This routing protocol is used when you need to
interconnect multiple AS with each other OR when sending
the traffic from one AS to another.

IGRP:- The routing protocol which is used to pass routing
updates within multiple devices within a same AS. It got
some limitations for which EIGRP was bring into existence.
But the thing which EIGRP also got limitation that it is a
Cisco proprierty protocol

OSPF:- This routing protocol is used when your devices
inside a same AS are of multiple vendors. This protocol has
an advantage that it shares the routing updates only when
there is an addition or deletion or some modification in
the link. That is why it is called as LINK STATE protocol

Static Routing:- This is used only when your network is
small and can be easily administered. But it involves
entire manual efforts.

When do you use BGP, IGRP, OSPF, Static Routes?..

Answer / mohit

BGP is internet routing protocol. If you want to exchange
routes via internet BGP is must.

IGRP : IGRP is old version for EIGRP. We are using IGRP
when we have small network.

OSPF : OSPF is standard protocol and hence supported by
multiple vendors. This protocol has an advantage that it
shares the routing updates only when there is an addition
or deletion or some modification in the link. That is why
it is called as LINK STATE protocol.

Static Routes: When our network is quite small and we want
to define routes manually we configure static routes.
But when network grows defining routes statically can be
very difficult and complicated .

Answer / vijay

bgp - border gateway protocol

it is a path vector protcol ... it is used for communication
between asbr(autonomous system border router).... if absr s
in diff as ebgp is used..
if it is in same as ibgp is used...

igrp.. it s a hybrid protocol ..

support both distance vector and link state protol
it provide comm with as

static route:: it provide communication to node which are
not directly connected...

its ad value is 1

When do you use BGP, IGRP, OSPF, Static Routes?..

Answer / dhaval

BGP --- when there are lots of router in network, BGP
should be for that network.like ISP network.

IGRP--- for a very small company. take more time to
converge if there is outage.

OSPF--- when company is little smaller then ISP. and have
many department to be consider then u can put department in
to area. its very fast to converge. have to have more
processsor and memory.

Static Routes-- very useful for home and very samll
business. its all menual but work great though u have very
few memory and processor in router.

When do you use BGP, IGRP, OSPF, Static Routes?..

Answer / piyush kotak

BGP:- BGP use for shairing 2 different AS Routing
information.

IGRP:- IGRP is use for small network

OSPF: - This routing protocol is used when your devices
inside a same AS are of multiple vendors. This protocol has
an advantage that it shares the routing updates only when
there is an addition or deletion or some modification in
the link. That is why it is called as LINK STATE protocol.

Static Routes:- This is used only when your network is
small and can be easily administered. But it involves
entire manual efforts.
