As a software tester ur main work are:

write testcase against the requirement or buisness
requirement and execute it and if there is a mismatch
between expected and actual result, log the defect and give
a severity and report back to the developer.

Good software tester must have good understanding of the
whole application or product life cycle.your main aim is to
write minimum testcases with maximum bug detect capacity.

You want a automation tool to be used for your project. How will you convince the client for the same. Please give me specific answer.
