Why should we use Star-Delta connection in step down power
transformers?
Answer Posted / arindam
Delta is mainly used on low voltage side because its line voltage=phase voltage. if it is used on high voltage side due to high voltage in phase more insulation is required. But if it is star then its phase voltage = (1/√3)phase voltage. so if high voltage applied to line of star its phase value decrease by √3 times and comparetively less insulation is required. Hence star-delta is used for step down and delta-star is used for step up.
