how starting current in motor is reduced in case of motor in star connection.

The motors are usually designed to run in delta connection i.e. each of the three windings to take line voltage . When you start in star connection , each winding is subjected to phase voltage , Hence the starting current will be less .

In india, according to trade theory above 5 HP motor reqired star delta starter. But we R connect 11 KV motor with 14MW in Direct to line ( With VCB starter combination) Can U Guess, How it is possible ?????
