AC always rated in tons because it designed on the basis of quantity of "heat removal" from room.quantity of heat is termed in tons means if an AC IS ABLE TO REMOVE 1000 KILO CALORIES in an hour that AC rated as 1 ton.
1 ton= 1000 kilo calories
=4120 kilo joules
=12000BTU(British thermal unit)
if you want to know of the power rating of AC then use it formula given below
1 ton =3.516852 KW .
for example 3 ton
3*3.516852 =10.55KW.
