Why is a condensor used in a rankine cycle?

pump is used for compressing liquid and compressor is used
for compressing gaseous that's why we can condensate so that
pump can easily compress the water and transfer it to boiler
... but one ques if we use compressor to compress steam
directly without the use of condenser instead of pump than
what will happened ?
