In a house wiring why we are using only one neutral wire and
so many phase wires from the main board, when the load is
common for both wires?
Answer Posted / prasanna raj
The supply which we are receiving in our homes is Single phase supply only since the loads which we use are lesser rating (hardly 6A-8A)& Single phase is sufficient. In case of heavy loads, Three phase supply is required since the higher loads, single phase is not sufficient. Therefore 3 different phases are used in parallel with one Neutral common for 3 phases to complete the circuit path (in case of Star connection). In case of Single phase supply, there will be 1Ph + 1N. So, loads of our homes (ie; Fans, TV, Fridge, Iron Box, Motor etc) are all of Single phase having 2 terminals one for phase & one for neutral. So, for each & every load, we can connect to our supply's phase & neutral. No problem in that. But however, the common terminal(neutral of all loads)has to be grounded finally. Instead, rather than connecting each load P-N to Supply P-N & then Neutral to ground. We can directly connect supply's neutral to ground & supply's phase to load phase terminal, connecting the load neutral terminal to common grounding wire.

following are the questions asked in interviews: 1) Considering the short circuit fault, which switchgear is preferable, SFU OR MCCB? Which operates faster? whicg one is popular in Indian Market and why? 2)Define SCPD. What is type2 coodination? 3)Why the contactor rating is higher for the fuseless selection than for fuse selection? whether the ratinf of SFU or MCCB remains the same in both the cases? 4)If the HP rating is known then can you calculate the ratings of L.V Switchgear(SFU/MCCB, contactor, OLR) without using the selection chart?
