Why HT cable have only 3 core ?
Answer Posted / superjyoti
HT cables are rated at 1000v to 11kv.This is the range of
transmission voltage. In normal transmission line three
conductor are required.Electrical power is generated at
power plant(11kv normally),then stepped up by transformers
to transmit power to far substation. The secondary winding
of these transformers are in delta connection.
Whereas LT cables are rated up to 1000kv used for
distribution purpose.they are generally of 3.5 core,4 core
etc.three are for phase one for neutral. In the distribution
transformer secondary winding is generally star
connected.so we get 3 core 4 wire o/p(1 wire for neutral)
