When we open the door of refrigerator then we feel hot, why?
Answer Posted / dr. t.s. ravikumar
When we open the door of the refrigerator in a closed room
initially the room may have some chillness due to exchange
of heat (less mass and low temperature refrigerated air
with more mass high temperature atmospheric air). After few
seconds, As the heat drawn from the room (when the door is
open) is rejected through the condenser in the rear side of
the refrigerator back into the room itself the temperature
of the room will not change. Though there is no useful heat
removal the compressor works continuously by absorbing
electrical energy which will be rejected as heat into the
room. Now it acts like an electrical heater. All high grade
electrical energy is converted into low grade heat energy
(first law). Thus the room becomes hot after some time.
