difference between ordinary portland cement concrete
strength and pozzolona portland cement concrete strenth
Answer Posted / ashok yadav acc cement
BIS has specied OPC in 3 different grades i.e. 33, 43 and
53 Grade depending upon the compressive strength of a
cement - sand mortar cube of 50 sqcm at 28 days.
However, PPC cement is having strength equal to 33 grade
OPC as per BIS.
As per BIS compressive strength at 3, 7 and 28 days are 16,
22 and 33 MPa (Min) resoectively.
But , Cement manufacturers are producing best quality PPC
having strength more than OPC of 43 Grade even 53 Grade in
some cases also.
BIS has not specified any Grade in PPC.
Finally concrete strength are depending upon the quality of
cement used i.e. mainly on 28 days compressive strength of
cement. It does not matter whether cement is OPC or PPC for
design - mixed concrete purposes. It purely depends on 28
days compressove strength of cement beside the other
factors i.e Water cement ratio, enviornment conditions i.e.
type of exposure, shape and size of aggregate, shape and
size of members etc,
