What is the out put of a CT? How the ratio is decided ?

The O/P of a current transformer (CT) is normally the secondary current of the CT. For eg.the CT may be rated like this "60/5A 15VA CL-1", in which 60/5A means the CT’s primary side current is 60A & the secondary side is 5A, 15VA means burden of the CT ie. Maximum power capacity / rating, CL-1 means the insulation class of the CT.
Since the O/P of CT’s are used for protection / measurement, the o/p rating is totally depends up on the ratio settings of the protective devices tripping capacity or that of the measuring instruments measurement capacity .
