Why we are using K2Cr2O7 for control of absorbance in UV?

Control of absorbance is verified using known amount of Potassium dichromate solution and checking the absorbances at various wavelengths, to establish that the resulting E ( 1% 1 cm) levels at those wavelengths, are within the permitted tolerances.
