why there is 1 phase and 3 phase but not 2 phase and 4 phase?
Answer Posted / naresh
As Ram kumar says i.e. there is more no. of conductor will
required for more no. of phases is correct, and also for
large load we require more power which can be generated by
only three phase motor and a large kw motor cant be started
by single, two and foure phases, it required leading or
laging power which is only possible with three phase.

I am adding another motor to the system, but I want to purchase a 480 vac, 60 hz motor to use. It will be on a VFD that is rated fro 380 thru 480. Is this posible and will I have to use a larger motor and derate it?
